Day 2...Astoria to Portland...100 miles

'The woods are lovely dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep'. Robert Frost's poem 'Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening' aptly describes riding in the Pacific Northwest. It is lush, with towering Sitka Spruces and Firs, and an undergrowth of ferns and rhododendron that gives thought to a time before civilization encroached on the surrounding area. One can only imagine what awe must have been felt by the first European explorers to the area.

Today's ride was enjoyable. We cruised, easily. We only have a few more days to enjoy the flora of this area. It deserves to be savored by riding through at a sauntering pace. And as a bonus to that, legs and lungs weren't taxed significantly allowing for another enjoyable journey tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures that you might enjoy. The final 15 miles of the ride were on the outskirts of Portland. I've included a few of the city view as well. Frankly, not nearly as appealing as the forests, but worthy of sharing nonetheless.
